Hi! Welcome to today's tour: Alpena's Places of Worship: A Historical Tour from 1860-1890 presented by the Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library.  We're so glad you'll be joining us today!  I'm Nancy and I will be your guide.  By highlighting the places of worship, in the City of Alpena, this tour will focus on the congregations that built these impressive, historical buildings and the architectural changes that reflect the trends of Michigan and the Nation. A big thank you to the State Historic Preservation Office for their notes on architectural features and to all the local churches who provided history and photos for this tour!

A few notes before we get started. This tour is 4.5 miles long and takes approximately one hour and eleven minutes to complete, plus the time you spend at each stop.  You can stop at any time and start at the same spot later.  The audio will automatically start when you get close to each point of interest.  To ensure the best audio quality during the tour, the use of a headset is recommended. And this is important: please make sure you stay aware of your surroundings at all times. Oncoming vehicles, bicyclists, or people walking with or without a pet can be hazardous.

As the tour begins you will see a blue navigation line on the map. Follow this line around the tour to hear interesting stories about the congregations and the buildings they built. Let’s get started!

Our tour begins at the corner of Water Street and 2nd Ave.
