MuzeuMuseion - Museum of modern and contemporary art
Collecting and Preserving
Since 1985 Museion has been building its collection of modern and contemporary pieces of art, which now consists of 4.500 works of the highest quality by renowned international artists. Museion strives to preserve these works of art for the enjoyment and education of future generations.
Producing and research
Museion works as an international research laboratory and as a commissioner of works of art, which are often produced directly on the premises. The aim is to be interdisciplinary and these efforts can be seen in the fact that not only visual art finds its place at Museion, but also architecture, music, performance, film and theatre all have a space in the yearly programme.
Museion exhibits works from its collection on a regular basis in thematic exhibitions, ensuring that as many as possible of the works of art from the collection are available as often as possible for public viewing. In addition, temporary exhibitions, in line with the defined themes and of high calibre, by prominent local, national and international artists are also run on a regular basis. The exhibition programme at Museion are generally structured around three guiding themes: research into the aesthetics of contemporary sculpture, the significant positions of women in art and socio-politically committed art
Communicating and educating
One of Museion’s central aims is to encourage an ever-deeper comprehension and provide ever-more clarity in order to provide more enjoyment for more people of modern and contemporary art. Museion educates the public it serves through educational programmes, information material (print and digital) and events such as talks with artists and curators.
