Hello! Welcome to the exhibition "Gods and Kings of Egypt". Today I will be your guide for the replicas of these milestones that have been made by the Egyptian artist Hany Mostafa, who has taken more than 8 years to recreate them, making more than 100 trips to the original. The works are made with fiberglass and wood.

The first of the monuments that we are going to see is the archaeological site of Abu Simbel, made up of the second temple of Ramses and the temple of his wife Nefertari. This temple was built by the second Pharaoh Ramses, third pharaoh of the XIX dynasty, in 1274 BC.

Its location is in the Aswan Valley, but it is not its original location. The Egyptian government decided to control the floods of the Nile river by building a dam, the Aswan dam, which caused many of these temples to be submerged under the waters of the Nile by the creation of Lake Nasser.

UNESCO in the 60s decided to create an expedition at an international level to save them and that is why they are dismantling them block by block, as can be seen on the facade, and they mount them again 62 m. highest and 200 m. farthest from the banks of the Nile river.

Spain participated in this expedition and therefore we have the Temple of Debod in Madrid, as thanks for participating in this campaign.
