Hello everybody! Welcome to our exhibition: "Thirty paintings from the life of Peter the Great - 2022". It is dedicated to the 350th anniversary of the birth of the first Russian emperor, and is an ideological continuation and at the same time a historical reconstruction of the exhibition held here, on the Field of Mars, in 1872.
That year the bicentennial anniversary of Peter the Great was celebrated. Emperor Alexander II arrived at idea to organize a public art exhibition devoted to this event in order to introduce the general public to the life of the reformer tsar. He commissioned 30 historical canvases depicting various events of Peter the Great's reign from famous artists of his time. Only 14 paintings have survived to this day.
For this exhibition, the themes of the lost canvases have been reinterpreted and reproduced by our contemporaries, artists who, at various times, graduated from the St. Petersburg Ilya Repin. Academy of Arts.
A separate pavilion has been built for each picture, replicating the appearance of the ones that were built 150 years ago. Just as in 1872, they are arranged in a line from the Moika River Embankment to Millionnaya Street. The paintings are exhibited in chronological order. This is how a kind of "time-line" of Peter the Great,s life has been created.
The central pavilion plays the most important role in the exhibition. There you will learn how this image of Emperor Peter the Great was formed, and why Emperor Alexander II decided to present the deeds of his ancestor in this way.
A QR code is located in each pavilion. You can use it to open a web page on your mobile devices with a video that reveals additional details about the exhibits. The information is available in 9 languages.
There are two unique VR attractions located in the exhibition space. These act as "Time Machines" which will take you back 150 years to the 1872 anniversary celebrations.
We have not forgotten about your health. The virtual reality terminals are equipped with an automatic disinfection system.
This exhibition "Thirty paintings from the Life of Peter the Great - 2022" is open to the public 24 hours a day until August 9.
