Welcome to New Orleans! Thank you for joining us on today’s tour, Beyond Fat Tuesday: A Guide to the Historic French Quarter, brought to you by ListenUp Audio.
My name is Claire and I'll be your guide today. This tour takes approximately one hour to complete. Our tour will include stops at several museums and cathedrals, so feel free to explore them at your leisure. You can pause the tour at any time and restart whenever you’re ready. I'll be providing you with clear directions, and the audio will start automatically when you get close to each point of interest. If a site is closed or your path is blocked, simply go around it and the tour will pick up at the next location. Don't forget to stay aware of your surroundings at all times and obey all traffic signals.
You should be standing on the corner of Decatur St. and St. Peter St.
Welcome to the historic New Orleans French Quarter. Sitting on a crescent in the Mississippi River and affectionately known as the “Vieux Carré” to the locals, this rich, unique, and extraordinary blend of Spanish, French, Creole and American styles form the very heart of the city of New Orleans, providing an experience like no other. From the traditional jazz of New Orleans fame echoing across its streets, to the horse-drawn carriages gliding along its cobbled walkways, every step along New Orleans’ French Quarter feels like another step through time, to an age when French exploration and Antebellum sophistication were at their peaks. Join us as we visit one of America’s most vibrant artist colonies, New Orleans’ oldest neighborhood, and a place where artists, painters, and street performers make their living ensuring that each and every tourist (including you) feels that every day spent in New Orleans is its own vacation. If you think you’re ready, let’s get started!
