Monumental decorative sculptural compositions of “Transport” series

In 1997, at the time of formation of the city’s master layout plan, the decorative sculptural compositions “Transport” were designed and approved both by public and the Soviet authorities. These compositions, built in1979 as objects of art, served as part of volumetric and special composition of the district’s dwelling area. The Authors are the People’s Artist of the USSR Andrei Vasnetsov and architect Evgeniy Iokheles.
Stylized figures of various transport machinery of the early XX century are installed on the pedestals: a steam engine, a paddle-boat, and an air-balloon. The compositions made out of hammered metal fit nicely against the background of low-key geometrical shapes of apartment buildings.
