Bolkerstraße
Düsseldorf is internationally known as a carnival hot spot, but the celebrations are not limited to the “crazy” times; they last throughout the year. Almost 300 gastronomical businesses are located in an area of only half a square kilometre. One bar is connected to the next, which has earned Old Town the reputation for being the “longest bar in the world”. The restaurant selection is international, although the local breweries enjoy a special standing.
The Lower River Rhine area is home to the “Altbier”, a top-fermented brand of beer served fresh from the keg in an “Altbier” glass. Düsseldorf has cultivated the “Altbier” tradition in a special way. The fresh beer is not a true export item due to its limited shelf-life, but here it is available everywhere. The brands “Schumacher“, “Schlüssel“, “Füchschen“ and “Uerige“ have always preserved their local character and have been headquartered here for more than 150 years.
True “Altbier” fans swear by the beer being served directly from the keg. Served by “Köbes“, a special type of server, they enjoy the “leckere Dröppche“ (delightful droplet) the most. We will elaborate on this topic further later, when we invite you to join us for an Altbier-tasting and to sample more of Düsseldorf’s traditions.
