    Hi. Welcome to today's walking tour, “A Walking Tour of Historic Alpena,  Michigan” presented by Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library. Weʼre so glad youʼll be joining us today! Iʼm Bob and Iʼll be your guide.

    A few notes before we get started. This tour takes approximately thirty three minutes  to complete, plus the time you spend at each stop.  You can stop at any time and start at the same spot later.  The audio will automatically start when you get close to each point of interest. This audio walking tour is also handicap accessible.  To ensure the best audio quality during the tour, the use of a headset is recommended. And this is important: PLEASE make sure you stay aware of your surroundings at all times and obey all traffic signals.

    OK, I think we're ready to get started. Take a look around. You should be standing at the fountain at Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library on the corner of 1st Ave and Park Place. You are? Then let's begin! Welcome to historic downtown Alpena Michigan!

    Enjoyed the tour of my birthplace. The Thunder Bay Theater was originally The Alpena Candy & Cigar Wholesale Company where my dad, Ralph "Francis" Mischley, worked for 54 years before he retired in 1984.

    I'm thinking these two photos are NOT of the same building. I remember well being taken to bowl over the furniture store by my dad in the early 1950's or earlier. This old photo has buildings on the left side, not possible by the river. Maybe 2 diff bldgs?
