Johns Hopkins, Baltimore and the World
My name is Anne Hollmuller and I am a student here at Johns Hopkins University. I have designed this tour to investigate and trace the connections between our university, our city, and the wider world. Johns Hopkins University has been located in the City of Baltimore since the founding of the University and the Hospital in 1876. The port of Baltimore has been a center for trade and exchange for hundreds of years, and this vibrant and diverse city has greatly enriched our university life. The long relationship between the city and the university has been one of both collaboration and collision, conflict and cooperation. Both Johns Hopkins and Baltimore are connected to a larger world of inventors and innovators, collectors and connoisseurs, traders and travelers. This tour will use the objects in the Archaeology of Knowledge installation to tell the story of some of the connections between Johns Hopkins, Baltimore and the world.
