Dmitri Mendeleev’s attitude towards children is best illustrated by his statement: ‘I have experienced a lot in my life, and I think there’s nothing better than being with my children.’
Dmitri Mendeleev believed that one of the most important driving forces behind all of humanity’s advancement is the human desire to provide for one’s children and make their lives easier, even at the cost of one’s own suffering. Mendeleev had six children from his two marriages: a son and a daughter from his first marriage – Vladimir and Olga; and four children from his second marriage – Liubov, Ivan, Vasily and Maria. He loved them all dearly. Mendeleev’s children were well educated and they all left a mark in history even if it was small.
The exhibition is about the children of Dmitri Mendeleev and what kind of father he was.
