When did the "Korbach Dachshund" live? What does lime have to do with the development of life and the development of the town of Korbach? Why was Korbach once located on a tropical ocean near the equator? You will find answers to these questions in the GeoFoyer Kalkturm Korbach and in the outdoor facilities in the quarry at the Korbach Fissure - the oldest fossilised fissure in Europe!
Explore the landscape and living world 250 million years ago. The rocks found near Korbach are the geological memory of this ancient landscape. Find out how they were formed and what they tell us about past times in the outdoor area of the limestone tower.
Get to know one of the oldest industries in the world: the extraction and processing of limestone. The exhibition on the ground floor of the limestone tower shows how the industrial utilisation of limestone began here in the quarry over 100 years ago.
Would you like to know how vertebrates managed to colonise the entire earth under water, on land and in the air? Or why orchids grow around Korbach? Then visit our exhibition on the top floor of the lime tower.
Visit the oldest Korbacher: Procynosuchus, the "Korbacher Dachshund", is of course not a dog, but a mammal-like reptile - one of our oldest ancestors, so to speak. In the information pavilion in the quarry, you can find out how the Korbach fissure and its fossilised contents were formed.
