Lookout point of "Pedra da Ra"
The "Pedra da Ra" (Frog Boulder) is located on the mountain of "O Castro", in the village of “San Paio de Carreira”, at a height of 213 meters above sea level. In May 2016, the stairs giving access to the top of the boulder were removed in order to preserve the natural shape of the boulder.
When viewing the boulder from the west, it appears to be a frog with its mouth opened. This is how it received its name.
From the heights, you can clearly see the “Dunes of Corrubedo”, the river mouth of the “Arousa´s Inland Sound”, and the mussel farms in the distance.
More specifically, you can enjoy the sights of the beautiful view of the ocean along the coast and the cove of “Corrubedo” with its village and its essential lighthouse, its dunes, and the lagoons of "Carregal” and “Vixán".
Further south in the distance, you can see the silhouettes of some islands belonging to the "Parque Nacional das Illas Atlánticas"(National Park of Atlantic Islands), such as the island of "Sálvora", the small islet of "Fornos", and finally the "Ons" and "Cíes" Isles.
Following the trail to the east, you will arrive at the "Castro da Cidá", its construction is of Celtic origin (recently excavated) in which you can still identify some walls of the stone dwellings “Castros”.
