If you want to escape the crowds, the heat, the hustle and bustle, want to settle down with some delicious Turkish tea or coffee and people watch, then Galata bridge is the number one people watching spot.
The Galata Bridge connects the old with the new. It bridges the old city with Beyoglu, the Northern district of Istanbul. Not only are the views from the bridge overlooking the Golden horn magnificent but you will also be in the best location possible for people watching. Whether its fisherman or locals.
Who and what you’ll see will remain with you for a long time.
Watching fisherman upon fisherman casting off his line in the hope of making a catch is captivating, you wont even realize that an hour as passed, you’ve drunk 5 Turkish coffees watching them all trying their luck with the fish.
Should you look away, and you happen to see what looks like a giant loaf of bread walking towards you, you haven’t drunk too much Turkish coffee. It’ll be fresh bread making its way to its final destination.
The fishermen are not the only people you can keep an eye out. The bridge is used by everyone and anyone.
Venture under the bridge and you’ll be surprised to see restaurants, coffee shops and shisha bars scattered all over. This area is a great place to hang out, make a day out of it, spend the morning on top of the bridge and the afternoon below the bridge inhaling the sweet scents of shisha. So whenever you smell sweet shisha, you’ll be reminded of your time sitting under the Galata Bridge in Istanbul, enjoying a hot drink whilst watching people go by.
If you only visit the Galata bridge once, make sure you time it right and you can enjoy a Turkish coffee or tea whilst watching the sun set. That’s when the bridge really comes alive
