    The story of funicular railways in this country began right here in the heart of Scarborough's South Bay Sea front. The popularity of the resort grew through the 1800s and it was in 1875 that the first passenger cliff railway opened to improve access to the popular Spa. Today we'll walk along the scenic Cleveland Way and discover what drew visitors to this once peaceful fishing town and how it became a centre for both entertainment and funicular railways in the UK.
