Musée St Mary's Church in Słupsk

St. Mary’s Church in Słupsk is one of the most valuable and impressive sacred buildings in the city. Its very shape immediately catches the eye. The church was built in the 14th century in the Gothic style, using characteristic red brick typical of the Pomeranian region. It is a tall and spacious three-aisled basilica with a massive tower on the western side. An interesting detail is that the tower is not perfectly vertical—it leans slightly, which for many years has attracted the curiosity of both residents and visitors. Inside, the church feels bright and open, and its austere Gothic architecture provides an excellent setting for the historic artworks that have survived to this day.

When visiting St. Mary’s Church, it is worth remembering that this place has been destroyed and rebuilt many times—by fires, the Reformation, and the Second World War. What we see today is the result of centuries of history, loss, and careful restoration. Thanks to this, the church is not just a monument, but a living story of the city, its people, and their faith.
