This small bay on the eastern shore of Sydney Cove, Campbell’s Cove is named after Robert Campbell, a Scottish merchant who arrived in Sydney in the late 1790s. Campbell is referred to as the “father of Australian commerce” after establishing a highly successful import/export business operated out of these storehouses and jetty.
Also it’s in these sandstone houses that Campbell setup Australia’s first bank in 1819. He accepted shillings, dollars, dumps, rupees. The site is marked by Green Plaque.
