The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson
1979–1986, series of 11 episodes, Lenfilm (USSR), dir. Igor Maslennikov
The characters created in the late 19th century by the Scottish writer Arthur Conan Doyle - the private detective Sherlock Holmes and his aide Dr. Watson – became hugely popular. For the audience in the former Soviet countries, the characters played by the Russian actors Vasily Livanov (Sherlock Holmes) and Vitali Solomin (Dr. Watson) are the real and only embodiments of the heroes of Doyle's works. Riga was used as a location for primarily the first episode of the series. The house with the famous apartment of Holmes, set in 221B Baker Street, is located in the Old Town, 22 Jauniela.
