Bettina, do you grow flowers or tomatoes on your balcony?

Yes, I’ve got herbs on the balcony. I haven’t got my courage up to try tomatoes yet. But I have planted thyme, rosemary, basil, lavender and oregano. I even use herbs to make tea.

Urban gardening is really popular at the moment. The trend started in New York and has since spread to Basel. Now there are over 40 municipal projects grouped within Basel’s so-called Urban Agriculture Network. All of these projects aim to turn grey wastelands with their concrete paving into green oases at the heart of the city. Places where people concerned with environmental, climate and nutritional issues can meet up and work together.

Landhof is one of these projects in Basel. By the way …

… FC Basel and the Swiss national soccer team played their home matches here in Landhof Stadium right up to the 1970s.
