About the museum

On December 6th, at IFEMA in Madrid, an exhibition will be opening, featuring works by the famous street artist Banksy whom, it would not be an exaggeration to say, has changed the world of contemporary art.

The Exhibition will be located in Espacio 5.1 of IFEMA and include more than 70 Banksy creations, including original works, 3D objects, rare prints, photographs, and much more. Visitors will be offered a specially created multimedia presentation, which will educate them about the mysterious artist as well as his most important pieces and noteworthy events.

The collection of art is made up of European private collections with the help of Lilley Fine Art gallery from Lisbon. Banksy's works will be exhibited in Spain for the first time.

A mystery artist, "catch me if you can" man, provocateur, and "Joker", Banksy has changed the mass perception of the purpose of street art. His ironic and witty works are always a protest against: politics, war, capitalism, and morality; and they have become a hunting ground for journalists, photographers, vandals, and art critics. The so-called "Banksy effect", a huge interest in street art and street artists (which began in 2006), blew up the world art market, resulting in graffiti works made on the verge of kitsch being sold at prestigious auctions for record amounts. The apotheosis of Banksy's struggle with the modern art establishment was his performance at the recent Sotheby's auction, where he destroyed his "Girl with Red Balloon". Banksy's art is a modern mythology shrouded in secret, intrigue, provocation, and scandal.

Alexander Nachkebiya, producer of the Exhibition:

"Banksy is one of the brightest and most important Artists and even a phenomenon of our time. His work is a challenge to the system, it is a protest, it is an extremely well-built brand, it is a mystery, it is a violation of the law... according to our idea, every visitor of the Exhibition will be able to decide for himself: who is Banksy - a genius or a vandal, an artist or a businessman, a provocateur or a rebel? Our Exhibition also shows the breadth of Banksy’s talent - he is always multidimensional and makes visitors think and decide for themselves. His work is always topical, very comprehensive, and sinks into the soul of each of us – I guess all this makes him a genius to me.”

The exhibition will run until March 10, 2019.
