Über das Museum
Dear friends, welcome to the General Court Building, also known as the Kochubey House, a museum of the National Historical and Cultural Reserve "Hetman's Capital".
Before you is one of the most valuable architectural monuments of Baturyn and the only building in the city that survived the complete destruction by Muscovite troops in 1708.
The building was built in the second half of the 17th century and is one of the rare surviving examples of civil architecture of the Hetman period in Ukraine. This makes it a truly unique historical monument.
It was from this building that the development of the Hetman's Capital Reserve began in 1993.
The history of the building is closely connected with some of the most prominent figures of the Cossack state. From the very beginning, it served as the main residence on the estate of Vasyl Kochubey, the general judge of the Hetman's Capital and one of the most influential officials of his time.
Later, the estate belonged to the last Hetman of Ukraine, Kyrylo Rozumovsky, and Pyotr Kochubey, a statesman and progressive agricultural reformer from the Kochubey family.
Today, this house is the only surviving building of the entire estate complex.
We invite you to learn the history of this landmark. To continue your journey, please proceed to the next route.
