The panel “Battle” is painted by I.I. Golikov, the founder of lacquer miniature painting in Palekh of Ivanovo region. His artistic manner is determined by rapid motion, emotional tension, dynamic postures, bright painting in contrasting colors. I.I. Golikov was a leader of “The Palekh Artel of Ancient Painting” established in 1924. Its members were A. V. Kotukhin, I.V. Markichev, I.M. Bakanov, I.P. Vakurov, I.I. Zubkov and others. The Museum Palekh collection of the 1920s- 1930s , including their works, is of great artistic value.
Palekh art developed from icon-painting. The artists use techniques of tempera painting; conventional compositions, landscapes and colors. Palekh art turns to fairy tales, epics, historic themes and songs conveyed in a poetical manner. Miniature painting decorates caskets, small chests, boxes. The black background emphasizes the depth and power of colors, enhances the ornamental character of painting.
