The Hyblean Gardens were created in the second half of the 16th century by the free enterprise of some local aristocrats on an outer spur of the old built-up centre of Hybla. There are some churches in the area and there are also the remains of the magnificent dome of Saint George’s Cathedral which was completely demolished by the earthquake of 1693. To transform the area into pleasant gardens the paths were lined with palm trees and flower beds were laid and it was furnished with benches and beautiful carved stone vases. At the east end it is possible to admire the Irminio Valley and the unique landscape of the Hyblean Mountains.
