About the museum
Six and a half years of inspired work and joyful creativity connect the great Russian writer Alexander Grin with the town of Feodosia. Most of his opus magnum was created here during that time. So, here he wrote the novels "The Golden Chain", "She Who Runs on the Waves", "Jessу and Morgiana", "The Road to Nowhere", two novelettes and about forty short stories.
On July 9, 1970 on the occasion of Grin's 90th birthday, the museum opened in the house where he had stayed for four and a half blissful years. This museum in the form of a ship, as extraordinary as the writer himself, embodies gratitude for the dreams and hope that Grin presented to people.
The idea to design a museum as a ship was not random. “Sea” was the first word the future writer could spell out as a child. And although the sea was far away and he only learned about it from books, it would forever fascinate the young romantic soul and became a sort of dream of his.
Grin carried his ardent youthful dream of the sea throughout his whole life and literary work. He put to paper a world that he loved when he was a child. And he invented his own country, which would later be called Grinlandia.
When approaching the museum from the seaward, you see the decorative panel on the facade - the Grin's "Brigantine" - as a forerunner of a bright and warm-hearted world.
